Verify Domain
Configure your domain's DNS settings to ensure your emails reach the inbox
Configure your domain's DNS settings to ensure your emails reach the inbox, are trusted by recipients, and stay out of spam. By adding these records, you're essentially granting Artmail permission to send emails on your behalf while proving to email providers that you've authorized these messages.
DNS Records Required
If you see a red warning sign next to "DNS Records" in settings, you should follow this guide to complete your domain verification.
What are DNS Records?
DNS (Domain Name System) is like the internet's address book. It helps route your emails and website traffic to the right place, making sure your messages get delivered and your brand is trusted.
Every device connected to the Internet has a unique IP address. DNS translates easy-to-remember domain names (like yourdomain.com) into these numeric IP addresses so computers can find each other.
DNS is also essential for email security. Records like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC prove your emails are really from you, protecting your brand and your recipients from spam and phishing.
Artmail Handles the Details
Artmail handles all the technical details of these records for you - you just need to add them to your domain settings.
The DNS Records You Need
To send emails with Artmail, you'll need to add four types of DNS records to your domain registrar. Each one plays a key role in making sure your emails are delivered and trusted.
Domain Verification TXT Record
Proves you own the domain. This is a required record that must be verified before you can send emails.
DKIM CNAME Records
Verifies your emails are genuinely from you. Required - you'll need to add 3 CNAME records for DKIM signing.
SPF TXT Record
Protects your domain from unauthorized use. Recommended - authorizes AWS SES to send on your behalf.
DMARC TXT Record
Provides email authentication policy. Recommended - tells receivers how to handle unauthenticated emails.
Before You Start
Make sure you've set your sending domain first. This is required before you can add DNS records.
How to Add DNS Records
You configure DNS records from your account settings after completing the initial setup. Navigate to Settings → Sending → Sender Identities in the left navigation menu to access the DNS configuration page.
View Your Required Records
Go to Settings → Sending → Sender Identities, then click "Verify Domain" or "Add Domain". Enter your domain (e.g., mail.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com) and click "Verify Domain".
In the DNS Records section, you'll see a list of the records you need to add:
- Domain Verification TXT Record:
_amazonses.{yourdomain} - DKIM CNAME Records: Three CNAME records for DKIM signing
- SPF TXT Record: Authorizes AWS SES to send on your behalf
- DMARC TXT Record: Email authentication policy
Each record will have a clipboard icon that allows you to easily copy the record value.
Add DNS Records at Your Registrar
Log in to your domain registrar and follow these steps for each record:
- Look for options like "Add Record," "Create Record," or "DNS Management"
- Select the appropriate record type (TXT or CNAME) shown in the "Type" column
- For the Host or Name field, paste the value shown in the "Name" column
- For the Value field, paste the text copied from the "Value" column
- If asked for TTL, enter 3600 or select 1 hour
- Save the record
Verify Your Records
Return to Artmail and click the "Verify" or "I've added these records" button. Artmail will check if your records have been properly configured.
Verification Status Indicators:
- <span style="display: inline-block; width: 8px; height: 8px; border-radius: 50%; background-color: #ef4444; margin-right: 8px;"></span> Not Verified: Records haven't been verified yet or are missing
- <span style="display: inline-block; width: 8px; height: 8px; border-radius: 50%; background-color: #f59e0b; margin-right: 8px;"></span> Partially Verified: Some records are verified, but others are still pending
- <span style="display: inline-block; width: 8px; height: 8px; border-radius: 50%; background-color: #22c55e; margin-right: 8px;"></span> Fully Verified: All records are correctly configured and verified
DNS Propagation
Records typically verify within minutes, but can take up to a few hours to propagate across all servers. During that time, you may see different records validate at different times. This is normal - just check back later.
Provider-Specific Instructions
Not sure how to add DNS records? Select your provider below for step-by-step guidance.
Adding DNS records in GoDaddy:
- Log in to GoDaddy and open your domain's DNS settings
- Click Add to create a new record
- For each record in your Artmail dashboard:
- Type: Select TXT or CNAME as shown
- Host: Use the subdomain or record name (e.g.,
_amazonses.mailfor_amazonses.mail.yourdomain.com) - Value: Paste the value from Artmail
- Save each record
GoDaddy Tip
If you see an "invalid hostname" error, try adding a period (.) at the end of the "Points to" value.
Find Your DNS Provider
Not sure which company hosts your domain's DNS? Use tools like whois.domaintools.com to look up your domain's nameservers and determine which service provider manages your DNS settings.
Quick Tips
Be Patient
DNS changes can take up to a few hours (sometimes longer) to fully propagate. If verification fails initially, wait and try again before troubleshooting.
Copy Values Exactly
Use the clipboard icons to copy and paste values directly from the Artmail dashboard to avoid typos. Always copy DKIM values exactly—no extra spaces or quotes.
Use a Subdomain
Use a subdomain like mail.yourdomain.com for email sending to keep your main domain clean and protect your existing email setup.
When You'll Need to Repeat DNS Setup
You'll need to add new DNS records and verify them again if you:
Change your domain setup:
- Switch to a different subdomain (
mail.company.com→news.company.com) - Change your root domain (
company.com→newcompany.com)
Change your DNS infrastructure:
- Switch DNS providers or transfer your domain to a different registrar
- Change your domain's nameservers
Multiple Domains Supported
Artmail supports multiple sending domains. You can add a new domain in Settings → Sender Identities and complete this entire DNS verification process for the new domain without affecting your existing domains.
